On some fly Travel Channel shit, the two-and-a-half-minute world tour that is “Pouches” puts you in Nagano, Sicily, the Galápagos Islands, and Robert Moses State Park, all while you’re puffing hibiscus, eating tacos, and having epiphanies. As disorienting as all of it might be, this exercise in lyrical exposition is supposed to just wash over you, like taking a shower in the imagery of culinary bravado and armchair violence.

You emerge, at the end of it, a well-fed, cultured, highly intoxicated individual. Once the haze settles, though, you realize: The beat never did drop. But of course, it didn’t have to, and the fact that it didn’t only made you pay more attention to what was being said. The song is like a friend asking you to come closer so he can tell you a secret, then, when you’re listening intently, and he whispers to you, ever so gently: “Fuck y’all, eat a fat dick with the monster.”

Action Bronson is proof that hip-hop is getting weirder and better as we march inexorably into the future. Watch as he dives into a ridiculously hype Toronto crowd, then puts some dude into a headlock, and then hangs out with an opera singer. Even if in many ways rap is the new punk, we’re really defaulting to a totally un-punk hierarchy system with Bronson at the head of the table. Far as we can see, there’s not a problem with that.

Foodie rapper Action Bronson (AKA Ill Prosciutto, AKA Bam Bam Bigalow, AKA Bronsolino) is the newest addition to the VICE Records dynasty. We here at Noisey and VICE are psyched as hell, mostly because this means he’ll be bringing us doggie bags of his famous wild imported Irish goat, which apparently he makes in a BBQ pit somewhere in Queens. Mmm.

Today he dropped the video to “The Symbol,” the first cut off his upcoming Rare Chandeliers mixtape, which was produced by West Coast producer The Alchemist, who you probably know from a resume that includes work with Dilated Peoples, Mobb Deep, Just Blaze, Ghostface, Odd Future… we could go on, but we won’t. Instead, we’ll tell you what the video’s about: Action plays an Albanian coke lord known as “The Symbol” who’s gunning for one last score before quitting the game. The video finds him dealing with crooked cops, fast women, and rival drug gangs. Good, clean fun.
